She will also highlight how the platform supports informed practice and promotes collaboration across the health care community.

Following the presentation, a panel of experienced nurse mentors will reflect on the challenges they faced early in their careers, the paths they've taken, and the resources they wish they had known about at the time.

In The Deepest Well, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, a pediatrician and public health advocate, uncovers the profound biological impact of childhood trauma. Triggered by the case of Diego, a boy who stopped growing after a traumatic experience, she explores how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect and family dysfunction, can alter brain development and increase the risk of chronic illness, substance abuse and early death. Blending science with empathy, Dr. Burke Harris reveals how trauma shapes health far beyond childhood. More than a study of the problem, this book offers hope by highlighting evidence-based strategies for early intervention, healing and building resilience in both individuals and communities.

Event Description:

With the recent passage of H.R. 1 into law, the U.S. health care system is facing significant changes, including substantial cuts to Medicaid. In Washington state, an estimated 250,000 people could lose their insurance coverage. The most affected populations are expected to include children, older adults and people with disabilities. At this year’s Fall Summit, we will examine what the proposed cuts to Medicaid and other health care programs mean for nurses, as well as the surrounding ethical implications.

To help guide this conversation, we’ll hear from two guest speakers. Justin Gill, DNP, ARNP, RN, president of the Washington State Nurses Association, will address the association’s response to H.R. 1 and a recent ANA resolution. Jamie Shirley, PhD, RN, from the University of Washington Bothell, will examine the ethical implications of the policy changes for nursing practice.

Nurses in Action (pending approval): Following the presentation, we will assemble 400 cold/flu kits for Real Change newspaper vendors.
