NLCC for Attorneys

The KCNA Nurse Legal Consultant Clearinghouse (NLCC) provides attorneys with the names of registered nurses willing to serve as nurse consultants/expert witnesses.

Role of Nurse Consultant and Nurse Expert Witness

  1. Consultant
    • Review, organize, and evaluate medical records.
    • Research nursing and medical issues.
    • Assist in discovery and trial preparation.
    • Provide expert evaluation of liability and damage issues.
    • Attend Independent Medical Examinations.
  2. Expert Witness
    • Testify in court as to the professionally acceptable standard of nursing practice.

Nurses registered in the Clearinghouse self-identify their own areas of expertise. KCNA does not endorse any specific nurse as a consultant/expert witness.

How to Use the Clearinghouse

If you have a case requiring a nurse consultant or expert witness:
  • Simply call KCNA at 206-545-0603 to provide some general information about the case. This process takes less than five minutes.
  • KCNA will fax or mail curriculum vitaes of nurse consultants/expert witnesses who best fit the qualifications of the case.
  • You select the nurses you would like to contact. Call KCNA to get their contact information.
KCNA provides this service for a small administrative fee of $75.00 per nurse that you select to contact. Negotiations for fee of service and scope of work are left to the attorney and the nurse consultant.
