State Department of Veterans Affairs (n.d.) Homeless Veterans Action Plan The Problem Over the course of a year, about 24,000 people are homeless in the suburban cities, urban centers and rural towns in King County. Each night, more than 8,300 people are homeless, including approximately 5,600 single adults (of which 2,500 are considered chronically homeless). The fastest-growing group of homeless is families; a family in King County must earn about 2.5 times the minimum wage to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. Some Solutions King County’s ten-year plan to combat against homelessness includes: • Creating a new collaborative leadership structure. • Implementing research-driven best practices. • Increasing homelessness prevention resources. • Developing support-enriched programs for King County’s homeless. • Enhance community-based access points to services. • Increasing affordable housing options.
